Rod Smith Names Dem Leadership Team

Tuesday was a busy day for Rod Smith, the new chair of the Florida Democratic Party. Besides addressing the House Democratic Caucus, Smith also announced part of his leadership team to help the party rebound in 2012.

Smith named Alison Beke Morano, Mark Alan Siegel and U.S. Rep Frederica Wilson as vice chairs. He also kept Judy Mount as a vice chair, a position she has held since 2009. Other party leaders staying are Rhett Bullard who is the first vice chair, Rick Boylan who is party secretary and Alma Gonzalez who is the treasurer.

Today, I am pleased to announce these appointments as I start building my leadership team within the Florida Democratic Party, said Smith. There is much work to be done as we focus on building the grass-roots of the party, step up efforts to raise funds, and recruit Democratic candidates across Florida. With strong leaders including first vice chair Rhett Bullard, along with vice chairs Congresswoman Frederica Wilson, Alison Berke Morano, Judy Mount, and Mark Alan Siegel, I am confident we will be celebrating great victories in 2012.

Smith named Tallahassee City Commissioner Andrew Gillum, who had considered running for party chair himself, in charge of efforts to reach out to young voters.
