Rob Schenck Weighs in on 6 States Joining Health Care Challenge

Rep. Rob Schenck, R-Springhill, who leads the Health and Human Services Committee in the Florida House cheered the news that six more states were joining Floridas constitutional challenge of federal health care laws backed by President Barack Obama.

I applaud Attorney General Bondi, as well as former Attorney General McCollum for spearheading this legal action against the federal takeover of our states health care system, and commend the six additional states now included in the lawsuit, said Schenck. Because of the federal law, states face an unprecedented burden on their Medicaid programs with less flexibility to manage them. The Florida lawsuit is the only case challenging these Medicaid mandates and now the majority of states in the country have joined us in fighting them.

The urgent need to reform Floridas Medicaid program is now even more important because of the new federal mandates, added Schenck. The House will propose a comprehensive reform of Medicaid to improve value both for Medicaid patients and Florida taxpayers. The Committees work on Medicaid reform will begin with a public workshop on Jan. 25.
