On the Road Again
Gov. Charlie Crist announced he is opening bidding on the state's $1.8 billion First Coast Outer Beltway that will connect I-595 in St. Johns County and I-10 in Duval County, near Jacksonville. The 46.5-mile road will be the the largest infrastructure project ever undertaken by the Florida Department of Transportation and is being billed as creating "thousands" of jobs.
After decades of discussion, it is exciting that this project will enter a new phase, said Crist in a release Thursday. Connecting businesses and regions through better infrastructure ensures that goods are transported more quickly and consumers can have access to more businesses. The Department of Transportation has set the pace for the next generation of Florida transportation improvement projects, improving the quality of life for the residents and visitors.
