Rick Scott Team: Bill McCollum 'Dollar Short and a Day Late on Immigration'

While both health care executive Rick Scott and Attorney General Bill McCollum, the two leading Republican gubernatorial candidates, have blasted the Obama administrations handling of immigration, the Scott camp does not think much of McCollums position on the issue.

The Scott team said on Wednesday that McCollum was merely following its candidates lead on calling for state offices to use E-Verify, a free program to see if someone is a legal alien or not, and in blasting President Obamas lawsuit against Arizona's new immigrationlegislation cracking down on illegal aliens.

Once again, Bill McCollum is a dollar short and a day late on immigration, said Jen Baker, a spokeswoman for Scott. Rick Scott is laying out specific solutions to Floridas immigration crisis while Bill McCollum is just further nuancing his already tangled position. Bill McCollum is trying to mirror Rick Scott on E-Verify but just like the Arizona immigration legislation, McCollums policy is more political speak than substantive policy proposal.

Noting that E-Verify has been around since 1997, the Scott team said McCollum did not ever push the program until Tuesday. The Scott campaign added that McCollum did not recommend the state use the program, only study whether to use it or not.

Only a career politician would think a study by a government agency is an effective policy proposal, said Baker. We dont need more studies by government agencies, what we need are bold ideas and solutions.
