Rick Scott Taps Erik Fresen for Southern Regional Education Board

Gov. Rick Scott announced on Tuesday that he appointed Rep. Erik Fresen, R-Miami, to serve on the Board of Control for Southern Regional Education (SREB).

The SREB was created in 1948 as a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that works to improve public education at every level, from pre-K through Ph.D. in the 16 Southern regional states it serves. The board includes the governor and four gubernatorial appointees from each member state, including at least one state legislator and one educator.

Since SREB seeks to bring together member states to forge consensus, especially on initiatives that would not be possible alone, they are the perfect organization to work with as Florida tackles the education policy debates of the future," said Fresen of the SREB.

Fresens term will expire in June of 2016.

SREB was the nations first regional interstate compact for education, and is still the nations most comprehensive. SREB is headquartered in Atlanta. Member states are Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia.
