Rick Scott Talks College Affordability in Orlando
Gov. Rick Scottmet with families from the Orlando area on Tuesday at Colonial High School to discuss a hot issue across the state: tuition and college affordability.
Tuitions too high," said Scott. "Weve got to figure out how to reduce the cost of tuition for all of Floridas students. Including the students that came here and grew up here, and dont qualify for in-state tuition like their peers do. Weve got to help them, make sure they can afford tuition in this state.
Offering in-state tuition rates for the children of undocumented immigrants has been one of the biggest issues of the 2014 legislative session. A bill to offer in-state tuition rates for Dreamers passed theSenate Judiciary Committee last week.
The governor has expressed his support for the Senate version of a bill to offer in-state tuition because itkeeps college affordable for Floridas students," but has not commented on whether he supports the House version of the bill, which has already passed on the floor.
