Rick Scott Supports Construction of Keystone Pipeline from Canada
With pump prices approaching an average of $4 a gallon in Florida, Gov. Rick Scott on Tuesday questioned the White House decision to block approval of the controversial Keystone XL oil pipeline.
Speaking on Fox Radio 92.5-FM in Fort Myers on Tuesday morning, Scott noted a need for Florida to continue to attract tourists, who may shy away as gas prices increase, and a need to seek alternative fuels and to switch to sources of energy from nations more friendly than those in the volatile Middle Ease.
Weve got to make sure we keep gas prices as low as possible and weve got to become less dependent on foreign oil, Scott said.
One thing I dont get is why we dont want to build that pipeline out of Canada, where we have a reliable partner, rather than a risky partner like Iran, or some of these countries that dont like us, for our oil.
Last week, the U.S. House of Representatives passed an energy bill that would wrest control of a permit for the Keystone XL oil pipeline away from President Barack Obama, who has put the project on hold, Reuters reported.
