Rick Scott Signs National Mortgage Settlement Funding Bill

On Tuesday morning, Gov. Rick Scott signed into law SB 1852. The new law authorizes funding from the National Mortgage Settlement to go to state agencies working on housing and foreclosure issues.

In his statement on Tuesday, Scott gave credit to fellow Florida Republicans. As Floridas housing market continues to improve, I applaud the work of Attorney General Pam Bondi and the Florida Legislature for helping Floridians, Scott said. This settlement will provide important relief to Florida homeowners and enable our state to get its fair share of the relief being provided across the country. Funding in this legislation will also help various affordable housing initiatives and will help make affordable housing more available to Florida families. We are working to ensure that Floridas economy continues to grow, and Floridas housing market continues to improve.

When I entered the $25 billion National Mortgage Settlement, it was imperative that the proceeds be used to address Floridians housing-related needs, Bondi said. I thank Governor Scott and the Florida Legislature for working with me to ensure that the remaining $200 million of Floridas portion of the settlement be used in accordance with the settlement agreement, and I thank Governor Scott for signing this important legislation.
