Rick Scott Proposes $20 Million for Technical Centers
On Monday, Gov. Rick Scott turned his attention to Florida technical centers, calling for $20 million in next year’s budget to expand current programs and create new ones.
“I’m pleased to announce that I will propose $20 million in funding for Florida’s technical centers in my recommended budget,” Scott said on Monday. “Our technical centers do a great job preparing students for a career in just one year. We know the workers of tomorrow are in our classrooms today – and advanced workforce training at our technical centers will help our students receive the skills they need to be competitive in the global market. It will also attract companies to our state looking for a high-skilled workforce.”
Marsan Carr, the executive director of the Florida Association for Career and Technical Education, applauded the proposal.
“The Florida Association for Career and Technical Education is very excited to be a part for the governor’s initiative,” Carr said. “We are committed to providing high quality training in response to specific local business and industry workforce needs. We are appreciative of this opportunity to enhance and expand our service to the current and potential workforce, and employers of Florida.”
