Rick Scott Prepares for Possible Tough Budget Battle in Weekly Address
In his weekly address, Gov. Rick Scott talked about the loss of police officers gunned down in St. Petersburg and Miami, and talked about visiting business. But he spent the last chunk of his brief address asking people to support him and his new budget with "tough choices and important priorities."
The governor is facing a budget with more than $3.5 billion less to work with than the Legislature had last year. On top of that challenge, he's promised to significantly reduce property taxes and phase out the business tax. His budget will have to make some serious cuts to meet those demands and balance a budget, and it's likely he's going to get a lot of push back from Senate and House leadership.
"When the budget is announced, I invite you to stand with me," he said. "Tell the special interests that now is the time to cut spending and reduce taxes."
