
Rick Scott Hits Miami for College Affordability Tour
Gov. Rick Scott made stops in Miami on Tuesday as part of his College Affordability Tour.
The governor addressed the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce to discuss reversing tuition increases as well asefforts to significantly reduce the cost of Florida prepaid savings plans, provide in-state tuition for veterans, and work with Florida state colleges to offer $10,000 degrees in important fields.
Scott also highlighted the signing of HB 851, which would offer in-state tuition rates for the children of undocumented immigrants.
"Until this week, many students in Floridawho are the children ofimmigrants, spent theirchildhood here and attended high school heredidnt qualify for the same in-state tuition rates as their classmates," said Scott. "By signing HB 851, we have embraced fairness for all studentsproviding in-state tuition rates for those students, while also reversingCharlie Crists 15 percent tuition hike. I want to make sure that our students can get a great education, start a successful career, and live the American dream right here in Florida."
