Rick Scott Goes CSI-Orlando for ‘Work Day’

Gov. Rick Scott slipped in his 14th Lets Get to Work" Day on Thursday, heading to Orlando where he spent time in the Florida Department of Law Enforcements Orlando Regional Operations Center.

Scott spent time as a crime lab analyst, processed DNA evidence from local agencies, checked out a gun in the firearms section and went online with the cybercrimes unit in their pursuit of computer criminals including online predators.

My goal is to create a Florida where every family feels safe in our communities, Scott stated in a release.

As a father of two and a grandfather, I know how important it is for our families to feel safe. Too often, weve seen evening news stories of families forever changed by a senseless crime. Thats why Im proud of our progress in knocking down the DNA case backlog by 60 percent, while also providing the funding necessary to expand and increase the number of DNA samples in the database.

Thanks to the hard work of the men and women I met today, were making progress every day in bringing offenders to justice and making our streets safer. Today, we are at a 40-year-low crime rate, which means were headed in the right direction.

According to a release from the governors office, the FDLEs DNA files provided 365 hits -- evidence associated with a crime is identified to an individuals specific DNA -- to local, state and national law enforcement agencies in September.
