Rick Scott Doubles Down on Increasing Teacher Pay
Submitted by Kevin Derby on October 15, 2013 - 12:28pm
On Tuesday, Gov. Rick Scott sent letters to school superintendents across the state urging them to raise the pay of teachers. Increasing teacher pay was one of Scotts chief goals in the 2013 legislative session.
For those districts that have not yet finalized collective bargaining agreements on teacher pay raises, I have asked the commissioner of education to provide any support and guidance superintendents need to come to a final agreement quickly, Scott said. Florida teachers deserve a salary increase, and they should have the benefit of knowing their new salary level as soon as possible so they can best plan for their futures.
As of now, 16 of the states 67 counties have increased teacher pay.
