Rick Scott Contrasts His Record With Charlie Crist's as Unemployment Rate Drops to 7 Percent
On Friday, Gov. Rick Scott announced that the state unemployment rate dropped from 7.1. percent in July to 7 percent in August. This marks six months of Floridas unemployment rate being below the national average. Since Scott took over from former Gov. Charlie Crist, the unemployment rate in Florida has dropped from 11.1 percent to 7 percent and there have been 365,500 new jobs in the private sector. With Crist, who left the GOP to run for the U.S. Senate with no party affiliation in 2010 before joining the Democrats in 2012, expected to be his opponent next year, Scott went out of his way on Friday to contrast their two records.
Todays announcement is great news for Florida families as the states unemployment rate dropped to 7 percent in August, Scott said. Since December 2010, the unemployment rate has dropped 4.1 percentage points and Florida has created 365,500 new private-sector jobs. This is evidence that our pro-growth and business-friendly policies are working.
