Rick Scott Commemorates Pearl Harbor Anniversary

On Tuesday, Gov. Rick Scott issued a statement commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Japanese attacks on Pearl Harbor. The 70th anniversary of the attacks is Wednesday.

Tomorrow, as we commemorate the 70th anniversary of the attacks on Pearl Harbor, we remember not only those who fell that day, but all of those who bravely served in World War II.The Day of Infamy, Dec. 7, 1941, and attack will be revered as we thank and honor those who paid the ultimate price as they were churned into war, said Scott. The attack not only marked the United States' entry into World War II, but also unified the people of our nation.Today we are inspired by the courage our parents, grandparents and our nation as a whole demonstrated in response to this tragedy. Their response reminds us of our patriotism and makes us a stronger nation.

To our military and veterans, we thank you for your sacrifice and commitment.As veterans ourselves, Lieutenant Governor Jennifer Carroll and I are both honored to have served in the United States Navy, added Scott. Ann, Lieutenant Governor Carroll and I encourage you to reflect on the men and women who served at Pearl Harbor that day, those who lost their lives and those members of the military who, then and today, protect our country. This Pearl Harbor Day, we are thankful for those who fight for our freedoms. Let us never take for granted our independence and those who protect it.

Flags will be flown at half-staff on Wednesday to commemorate the anniversary.
