Rick Scott Cheers Space Shuttle Atlantis Staying in Florida

On Thursday, Gov. Rick Scott cheered the news that the Kennedy Space Center would house the Atlantis. NASA Administrator Charles Bolden announced that the Space Coast beat out a number of rivals, including Houston, Wright Air Force Base in Ohio and Seattle, to house the space shuttle orbiter.

"I applaud NASA for deciding that Kennedy Space Center will be the permanent home for space shuttle Atlantis after the ship retires later this year, said Scott. Thanks to the efforts of Congressman Bill Posey and the entire Florida congressional delegation, the Atlantis will remain a permanent fixture on Floridas Space Coast. Atlantis is an important part of the states heritage and it is only fitting that its final home be here in Florida.
