Gov. Rick Scott and Rabbi Schneur Oirechman of Chabad Lubavitch of the Panhandle-Tallahassee celebrated the beginning of Hanukkah by participating in a ceremonial lighting of the menorah on Wednesday.
At sundown tonight, Jewish families across Florida will begin celebrating Hanukkah, a holiday that recalls the Jewish peoples miraculous victory over religious persecution," said Scott. "The story of the Maccabees is an inspiration to people of all backgrounds. Their courage reminds us to stand firm in our identity, trust in our faith, and fight for our ideals. Ann and I continue to pray for the safety of Israel and we extend our warmest wishes to all those observing Hanukkah."
