Rick Scott Calls for 'Top-Down' Review of FSCJ Leadership

As students are being asked to return wrongly issued grants, Gov. Rick Scott would like a top down review of the leadership at Florida State College at Jacksonville.

I have reviewed key findings associated with recent audits of FSCJ and am concerned that lack of management and financial oversight has hurt students at the college, Scott wrote to the Florida Times-Union this weekend.

Such findings negatively impact the school, the taxpayers and the programs necessary to help students find the best jobs in the work force. Based on these facts and in order to ensure the greatest possible confidence in such an important educational institution, the leadership of the college, from the top down, must be seriously reviewed.

The school is under pressure to repay the U.S. Department of Education $4.2 million in federal loans and Pell Grants that were incorrectly approved between 2010 and this spring and a $515,000 penalty.
