Rick Scott Calls Education Funding 'My Top Priority'

As the Florida Legislature faced the last hours of the session on Friday, Gov. Rick Scott released his weekly radio address and praised lawmakers for adding $1 billion to education in the budget they would be voting on later that day.

This week, I would like to congratulate the Florida House and Senate on another successful legislative session. At the beginning of the session, I called on lawmakers to increase K-12 funding by $1 billion. This was my top priority, Scott said. I would like to thank Speaker Cannon and Senate President Haridopolos, as well as the entire Legislature, for putting Floridas children first.

Scott also praised the Legislature for focusing on economic issues.

Like me, lawmakers realize that private companies create jobs, not government, Scott said. I look forward to signing legislation that strengthens Floridas business climate and invests in our children.
