Rick Scott Appoints Okaloosa Commissioner to Seat He Won

Kelly Windes will get to join the Okaloosa County Commission a couple of weeks earlier than expected.

Gov. Rick Scott on Wednesday appointed Windes to complete the term of James Campbell, who was removed from office by the governor on Sept. 17, according to the Northwest Florida Daily News.

Campbell was charged in September by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement with four counts of official misconduct and four counts of perjury for allegedly failing to fully disclose money on his annual Florida Commission on Ethics Public Disclosure of Financial Interests for money helping to recruit sponsors for the annual Boggy Bayou Mullet Festival.

Campbell, who didnt seek re-election, was nearing the end of his second term on the commission and as a longtime Niceville parks and recreation director.

Windes, a longtime boat captain who won a narrow four-way Republican primary in August, was due to take office Nov. 20.
