Rick Scott Appoints Gualtieri as Interim Pinellas County Sheriff

Robert A. Gualtieri has been named interim sheriff of Pinellas County by Gov. Rick Scott.
He will replace Sheriff Jim Coats whohad announced he will step down Nov. 8. Coats' wife is battling breast cancer.
Gualtieri, who is among seven campaigning for the office in 2012, has been the chief deputy for the Pinellas County sheriffs office since 2006.
Previously, he was an attorney at Ford and Harrison LLP from 2003 to 2006. From 1984 to 1998 and 1982 to 1983, Gualtieri served as deputy sheriff for the Pinellas County sheriffs office and police officer for the Dunedin police department from 1983 to 1984.
Gualtieris appointment is until Jan. 7, 2013.
