Rick Scott to Announce Jobs, Sign Bill, Distribute Backpacks
Gov. Rick Scotts schedule for Thursday includes a job announcement in the morning on the Space Coast, conducting a ceremonial bill signing with students that drafted the new law, and helping the Office Depot Foundation in Tampa distribute school supplies in the afternoon.
The nature of the job announcement was not immediately available, other than that it will occur at 9 a.m. at Cruise Terminal 6 at Cape Canaveral.
At 1:30 p.m., Scott will be at Armwood High School in Tampa with students and their American government teachers that helped draft House Bill 1351, championed by Rep. Rich Glorioso, R-Plant City, which is intended to help homeless youths get documents they need to work and enroll in school.
A similar bill signing was held in June at the Straz Center's Jaeb Theater in Tampa for the law that went into effect July 1.
The law allows "unaccompanied homeless youth," as young as 16, to obtain their birth certificates and Social Security cards without parents' or guardians' signatures and home addresses.
At 3 p.m., Scott will be at the Office Depot Foundation backpack donation event on Dale Mabry Highway in Tampa.
