Rick Scott to Announce Defense Industry Jobs at the Cape

Gov. Rick Scott and Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll will be on the Space Coast Thursday as part of an announcement regarding defense industry jobs coming to Cape Canaveral.

A release from the governors office states the announcement will be made at 11:30 a.m. at the Tides Club at Patrick Air Force Base.

Scott is also scheduled to participate in a defense contractors' round table Thursday afternoon at Brevard Community Colleges Cocoa campus.

The space industry has lost nearly 8,000 workers with the end of the space shuttle program. Its been a year since the last mission.

The announcement comes as United Space Alliance has advised the state Department of Economic Opportunity that 148 Kennedy Space Center workers will be let go Sept. 28.

The layoffs will impact administrative and support, waste management and remediation services employees.
