Rick Perry Campaign: 'Obama Administration is Waging a Full-Scale Assault on Christians'
Republican presidential hopeful Gov. Rick Perry of Texas continued to play up his personal faith and promised to fight for a large role for religion in the public square in a new ad his team unveiled on Wednesday.
"I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm a Christian, but you don't need to be in the pew every Sunday to know there's something wrong in this country when gays can serve openly in the military but our kids can't openly celebrate Christmas or pray in school," Perry says in the ad.
"As president, I'll end Obama's war on religion. And I'll fight against liberal attacks on our religious heritage," adds Perry. "Faith made America strong. It can make her strong again."
"From refusing to protect the Defense of Marriage Act in court to mandating abortion and other 'health' practices over the objections of church-affiliated hospitals, the Obama administration is waging a full-scale assault on Christians and people of faith," insisted Ray Sullivan, the communications director of the Perry campaign. "Governor Perry believes in the religious liberty embodied in the U.S. Constitution by our Founding Fathers. Rick Perry will be guided by these principles as president of the United States."
