Republicans Narrow Gap among Florida's Registered Voters

The gap between Republicans and Democrats in Florida has narrowed on the eve of Florida's presidential primary.

There are 4,063,853 Floridians qualified to vote in the Jan. 31 primary, with the difference between the main parties down to 489,710, according to numbers released Wednesday by the state Division of Elections.

Four years ago, there were 657,775 more Democrats in the state.

Of the states 11,241,022 registered voters as of Jan. 3, the last day to be registered to vote in the primary, there were 4,553,563 Democrats and 4,063,853 Republicans.

Prior to the 2008 general election, when there were 11,247,634 voters, 4,064,301 were registered Republicans and 4,722,076 Democrats.
