Republican Delegates make it Official: Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan in 2012

The delegates to the Republican National Convention at the Tampa Bay Times Forum have, as scheduled, overwhelmingly nominated through a state-by-state roll call former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney to be the party standard-bearer for the presidential election.

The next step in the process comes two nights from now, when Romney gives his acceptance speech.

Supporters of U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, brought some off-script excitement, first through boisterously expressing their displeasure that rule changes have been made that will make it harder for less-mainstream candidates in future primaries.

Later, during the roll call, Paul supporters would cheer when the occasion states' delegate vote for the congressman was announced.

Despite efforts to pack some state delegations through the caucus process, Paul failed to win any state.

Delegates also less formally accepted U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wisc., as the vice presidential candidate.

Ryan is scheduled to address the convention on Wednesday.
