Rep. Tom Rooney Named Deputy GOP Whip for 112th Congress
U.S. Rep. Tom Rooney was selected Tuesday to serve as a Republican deputy whip for the 112th Congress. The Tequesta Republican was the only second-term member to be tapped for the job.
Rooney was selected by Majority Whip-elect Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif, who said, In his first two years in the House, Congressman Rooney displayed the hard work and leadership that will make him a valuable asset as a deputy whip."
Rooney, who will chair the House Agriculture Subcommittee on Livestock, Dairy and Poultry, is also the only member of his class appointed to the House Intelligence Committee.
I am honored to be part of the team that will help ensure vital legislation gets approved in the House of Representatives, Rooney said. With the economy struggling, millions of Americans out of work and deficits at an all-time high, we have a difficult road ahead of us, but I believe we are up to the challenge."
