Rep. Sandy Adams Rips Janet Napolitano Over Alien-Release Policy
U.S. Rep. Sandy Adams, R-Orlando, grilled Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano on revelations that the administration is releasing criminal illegal aliens into the U.S. population and taking no action against countries that refuse their deportation.
Isnt it true that if [illegal immigrants] are in a deportation status and their home country will not accept them, that you release them back into the communities? Adams asked Napolitano during a House Judiciary Committee hearing Wednesday.
Yeah, theres a Supreme Court case called Zadvydas [v. Davis], which is a due-process case, which, if the home country cannot accept or will not accept, gives us about a six-month detention period, said Napolitano, according to an account reported in the Daily Caller.??
Noting that some of these people have come back into the communities and committed heinous crimes," Adams cited U.S. law that authorizes DHS to suspend the visas of citizens from noncompliant countries, and asked Napolitano how many times the secretary had invoked the law.
Napolitano said, "None that I am aware of."?
Under further questioning from Adams, Napolitano said she will look into the matter.
Unsatisfied with that response, Adams told the secretary: You said just a minute ago you had not. Now, you want to look into it. Ive listened to that all morning long. Ive been amazed at some of the answers given, knowing that you were coming before this committee."
