Rep. Campbell Files Bill to Expand Role of Nurse Practitioners in Florida
State Rep. Daphne Campbell, D-Miami, has filed House Bill 4103 to remove restrictions placed on Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners in Florida.
Setting up a battle with the Florida Medical Association, Campbell's bill seeks to broaden the scope of practice that can be provided by nurse practitioners.
Florida has an interest in ensuring its citizenshave access tohigh-qualityhealth care, Campbell said. To meetthese goals, the state shouldreduce any unnecessary restrictions that prevent patient access to health care services provided by Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners and fullyempower these professionals who have been educated and trained to provide that care.
Campbell, a registered nurse, said her bill will give more options to Floridians in regard to where they obtain health services, and would ease reliance on costly hospital emergency room visits.
Florida's nurse practitioners association said the measure could reduce the state's basic health-care costs.
