Rasmussen Poll: Only 15 Percent of Voters Take Donald Trump Run for President Seriously
Is it a surprise to anyone that most voters see Donald Trump as an amusement for the media? And that they don't take him seriously as a presidential contender, and more and more, they plain don't like him?
It's true, says a new Rasmussen Reports national phone survey. Poll results find that just 15 percent of Likely U.S. Voters think the Donald is seriously running for president and 61 percent believe the maybe-billionaire and reality TV star is after publicity only. Not entirely sure: 24 percent.
Strangely enough, only 28 percent have even a somewhat favorable opinion of Trump now. That's down from 39 percent three weeks ago.
OK, then, who does like Trump? The media. Some 62 percent of voters believe the media are too interested in covering his so-called prelude to a run for the presidency. Only 6 percent think hes getting too little coverage.
True, likely Republican primary voters at this early stage of the game give Trump (19 percent) the edge over presumptive favorites Mitt Romney (17 percent) and Mike Huckabee (15 percent) in the race to be the GOP's 2012 presidential nominee. But more primary voters have said they would "definitely" vote against Trump than said they would definitely vote for him.
Rasmussen's survey of 1,000 Likely Voters nationwide was conducted May 3-4. Margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95 percent level of confidence.
