Rasmussen Poll: Almost Half of Americans Want Temporary End to Federal Gas Tax

As gas prices continue to rise, a poll from Rasmussen Reports released on Tuesday finds that a plurality -- 48 percent of American adults -- want to see the federal government temporarily remove the federal gas tax until prices are lower.

While 12 percent are not sure, 40 percent think the federal gas tax should remain in place at this time.

The poll of 1,000 adults was taken March 24-25 and had a margin of error of +/- 3 percent.

The federal fuel tax is 18.4 cents per gallon for gasoline and 24.4 cents for diesel fuel.
