Rapper Talib Kweli Heads to Dream Defenders Protest
Another celebrity is headed to Tallahassee Thursday to join the Dream Defenders in their protest. According to the Dream Defenders' Facebook page, Rapper Talib Kweli will be coming to the Capitol at 3:30 p.m. and will spend the evening with them to protest the controversial Stand Your Ground law in Florida.
The Dream Defenders have been camped out in front of Gov. Rick Scott's office for nearly four weeks, and have vowed to remain in the Capitol until a special legislative session is called to discuss the law. The group of protesters arrived in the Capitol following the acquittal of George Zimmerman in the death of Trayvon Martin.
Gov. Scott has already rejected a special session, but House Speaker Will Weatherford said he'll hold a hearing on the law during the fall.
Kweli is just one of the several celebrities that have trekked to Tallahassee to show their support for the Dream Defenders' protest. Civil-rights activist Harry Belafonte, Rev. Jesse Jackson, poet Kevin Powell, and several legislators from around the state have all showed up at the Capitol since the protest began.
