Random Thoughts On Crist, Clinton Backroom Dealings
In the aftermath of Bill Clinton's "conversations" with Kendrick Meek about the U.S. Senate race, theories abound about who knew what, and when they knew it.
Here are two observations from Up Nawth:
Michael Goodwin, New York Post: "The aim of the 11th-hour maneuver wasn't to boost Crist, who is white; it was to stop Marco Rubio ... Rubio is not just any Republican. He is Cuban-American, a charistmatic rising star and, as a U.S. senator, could be a national magnet for Latinos to vote Republican. That was the red flag that sent the White House and Clinton into action."
Wall Street Journal editorial page: "By all appearances -- and confirmed by our sources -- the Crist camp planted the tale of 'the deal' as a last-minute surprise to sap Democratic support for Mr. Meek and perhaps sneak past Mr. Rubio. ... Talk about throwing Mr. Meek under the bus ... We wonder how many Floridians are now rooting for him to pass the governor."
