Quoting Ronald Reagan, Connie Mack Asks Each Member of Congress to Oppose Arizona Immigration Laws

Invoking conservative icon Ronald Reagan, Florida Republican U.S. Rep. Connie Mack sent a letter to all members of Congress on Wednesday, urging them to oppose the new immigration laws in Arizona

Like most Americans, I am thoroughly frustrated with the federal governments failure to address illegal immigration, and I strongly believe we must secure the border and crack down on employers who hire illegal immigrants, wrote Mack. The Arizona immigration law, however, strikes a severe blow to individual freedom and the principles that make our nation strong. It puts some Americans at risk of losing their freedoms and having to prove their citizenship while others stand little or no chance of being affected.

The Arizona immigration law challenges the freedoms of all Americans by requiring local officials to make judgments based on a reasonable suspicion of ones citizenship status, continued Mack. We need to protect the rights of all Americans and not subject only a few to invasive government influence. Whether you are a Republican or a Democrat, the principles of freedom and individual liberty must be the basis of every decision we make as lawmakers, particularly as we address the illegal immigration issue. We must not let fear and distrust fuel this debate.

Mack concluded by summoning the Gipper. He wrote, As former President Ronald Reagan once said, Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didnt pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same Please join me in fighting for those freedoms for all Americans.
