Q Poll: Rick Scott Leads Alex Sink Despite 'Annoying Ads'

President Barack Obama may be bringing Alex Sink down with him.

Republican gubernatorial candidate Rick Scott holds a 49 to 43 percent lead over his Democratic rival, according to a Quinnipiac University poll of likely voters. Those likely voters have an overall low opinion of Obama.

Some of Scott's ads have linked Sink to Obama and the strategy appears to be working.

According to the poll,Florida's likely voters disapprove 56 to 40 percent of the job President Obama is doing. Democrats approve 83 to 15 percent, while disapproval is 92 to 6 percent among Republicans and 56 to 38 percent among independent voters.

Its no surprise that Scotts campaigning and advertising has been trying to tie State CFO Alex Sink to President Barack Obama. The presidents low ratings, especially among independents who are likely to decide the governors race, are a problem for Ms. Sinks campaign, said Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.

But Scott's poll advantage doesn't mean he's seen as favorable as his numbers might suggest.

Among likely voters, 89 percent said they had seen Scotts TV ads and 54 percent of that group call the ads annoying, while 40 percent say they are informative.

From Sept. 23-28, Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,151likely voters in Florida with a margin of error of +/- 2.9 percentage points.
