Q Poll: McCollum Ahead of Scott, Meek Beating Greene
In stark contrast to the Public Policy Polling poll released Monday, a poll released by Quinnipiac University finds different results. While the PPP poll had Rick Scott ahead of Attorney General Bill McCollum in the Republican gubernatorial primary contest, Quinnipiac had McCollum slightly ahead -- 39 percent to 35 percent.
While the PPP poll had U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek crushing Jeff Greene by 24 points in the Democratic race for U.S. Senate, the Quinnipiac poll had Meek leading by a lesser margin -- 39 percent for Meek, 29 percent for Greene and 3 percent for former Miami Mayor Maurice Ferre.
"With one in five GOP voters and more than one in four Democrats undecided, anything is possible, but the internals of the poll are consistent with McCollum and Meek being ahead, said Peter Brown, assistant director of the universitys Polling Institute. They are more favorably viewed than their opponents and fewer of their backers say they might change their minds."
The poll, like the PPP survey, was taken on Aug. 21 and 22. The poll of 771 Republicans had a margin of error of +/- 3.5 percentage points and the poll of 757 Democrats had a margin of error of +/- 3.6 percentage points.
