Putnam to Read Florida Ag-based Kids' Book to Third Graders
Florida Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam will read to third-grade students at Kate Sullivan Elementary School in Tallahassee on Monday morning before heading to the Capitol to outline his energy plan to a Senate committee.
Putnam, and other volunteer readers across Florida taking part in Celebrate Literacy Week, will read Healthy Florida Farm, a book written by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services in which Florida farmers offer nutritious foods to schools, according to a release from the department.
The department took over oversight of the states school lunch program -- now highlighted by Florida agricultural products -- from the U.S. Department of Education this month.
At 10 a.m., Putnam is scheduled to address the Senate Communications, Energy and Public Utilities Committee on his energy plan that he says puts renewable energy goals at a more realistic level.
