Pro-Casino Effort Falls Short of Ballot in Lee County
The political committee that wanted residents in Lee County to vote on casino gambling fell short of getting the issue on the Nov. 6 ballot.
However, the Naples Daily News reports that Our Fair Share for Florida will make another run at getting the required signatures, starting with sending out 180,000 mailers to more than 350,000 voters in the next seven to 10 days.
The pro-casino group wants to allow Champion Development to build a 1,500-room hotel that includes the casino, a convention center, water parks and shopping on 57 acres near Interstate 75.
Even if voters back the idea, the Legislature, which on the House side has been reluctant to advance casino expansion efforts, would have to approve the casino.
