Press Sec Confirms: President Obama Backs Debbie Wasserman Schultz's Reelection

During Thursday's White House press briefing a reporter asked Obama Press Secretary Josh Earnest, "Does POTUS have confidence in DWS to retain her position at the end of this cycle?"

Earnest said this in reply:

"POTUS was in South Florida at the end of last week and he talked about her service as the chair of the Democratic National Committee. Look, the president appointed her to be the chair of the DNC during his first term, which means that part of her legacy at the DNC is having built campaign apparatus that succeeded in re-electing the first African American president.

"Obama is, of course, the  first president since Eisenhower to be elected and reelected with more than 50 percent of the vote, and certainly the DNC and the structure that was built and financed through Debbie Wasserman Schultz's efforts can take some credit for that, she should.

"The president made clear that Debbie Wasserman Schultz has always had his back, and he's gonna have hers. He announced his support for her reelection campaign and he is certainly appreciative of all the important work she has done at the DNC."
