Planned Parenthood, Solyndra Make Stearns a Rock Star
Politico's got an interesting take on the new rock-star status of Ocala Republican Cliff Stearns -- who probably never dreamed of seeing his name and "rock star" in the same sentence.
(Then again, neither have I.)
The gist of the piece being how Stearns' well-publicized tangles with Planned Parenthood -- which caused the whole Komen Foundation-PP public-relations war -- and his probe of the Solyndra solar-energy -- which would be the Obama administration's Teapot Dome if the press in this country was doing its job -- is helping him survive the lifeboat-survivor struggle redistricting has made of Florida politics.
Here's the nut graph:
"But the press attention could be useful for Stearns as he shifts into a newly redrawn district for 2012. Stearns on Tuesday announced he would leave his current district that includes his hometown of Ocala rather than be forced into an August primary challenge against freshman GOP Rep. Richard Nugent. Instead, hell shift into the new 3rd District, which includes about 70 percent of his current constituents and all or parts of eight counties hes represented before."
