Paul Ryan Turns to Carlos Curbelo as Congress Conferences on Education Bill

This week, U.S. House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wisc., turned to U.S. Rep. Carlos Curbelo, R-Fla., to conference committee on the Elementary and Secondary Education Act.

"Building a better education system for every child in America is one of my great passions,” Curbelo said on Wednesday. “I began this work five years ago as a member of the Miami-Dade County School Board and have been able to continue it on the Committee on Education and the Workforce here in Congress. I thank Speaker Ryan for the opportunity to serve on the conference committee for the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. This reauthorization of ESEA puts children at the center of America's education system, reduces burdensome regulations on school districts and teachers, and promotes school choice. As a member of the conference committee, I will fight for a strong but fair accountability system and to protect the interests of English language learners and the teachers and districts who serve these students - a major priority for our schools in Miami-Dade and Monroe counties."

“As an esteemed member of the Education and the Workforce Committee, Rep. Curbelo is a great proponent of legislation which will benefit our country’s elementary and secondary education,” Ryan said. “As a former Mmember of the Miami-Dade County School Board, he worked first hand with educators to create the best atmosphere conducive to a positive learning environment. I am pleased to appoint Rep. Curbelo to the conference committee for ESEA and look forward to working with him to pass a bill which will improve our educational system.”
