Pam Bondi Wants to Speed Up Examining Sexual Assault Evidence
Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi is urging crime labs and other arms of law enforcement to speed up the process of examining unprocessed sexual assault kits.
“As a career prosecutor I have seen first-hand the heartache and devastation caused by sexual predators,” Bondi said on Wednesday. “I have also seen the power of DNA evidence in bringing these predators to justice and helping the victims of these heinous crimes heal. Hidden in the estimated thousands of untested kits is the potential to solve cold cases, lock up sexual predators and make Florida a safer place to live and raise a family.”
Bondi opened the door to expanding the state crime lab, adding lab technician staff at the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, relying more on private labs and coordinating more with local law enforcement.
