Pam Bondi Praises Obamacare Lawsuit Going Forward
Pam Bondi, the Republican candidate for attorney general, offered warm praise to a federal judge for allowing Attorney General Bill McCollums lawsuit against the federal government over new health-care laws to proceed.
"I am very pleased with today's ruling by Judge Vinson, which is an important first step for Florida, 19 other states, and the small-business owners of our country that are opposing the unprecedented expansion of federal power in the recently passed health-care legislation, said Bondi, who made her support of the lawsuit one of the cornerstones of her campaign. "The legislation, if implemented, would impose huge costs to Florida at a time that unemployment is high, our businesses are struggling, and our state government must continue to meet its constitutional requirement to balance its budget. Furthermore, by mandating individuals to purchase health insurance, this legislation is an affront to basic notions of individual freedom.
Today's ruling is a victory, but it is just the first step, added Bondi. We must remain committed to defending our rights against any overreach of federal power. If elected to be attorney general of Florida, I will be fully committed to continuing this Florida-led lawsuit."
