Pam Bondi Announces Website for Claims in LCD Panel Settlement
Attorney General Pam Bondis office has announced a website for those who believe they qualify for some of Florida's $14.7 million share in a settlement with makers of LCD panels.
The settlement reached in December was between eight states -- worth a combined $538.5 million -- and a number of electronic manufacturers that include: Chimei Innolux Corp., Chunghwa Picture Tubes Ltd., Epson Imaging Devices Corp., HannStar Display Corp., Hitachi Displays Ltd., Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., and Sharp Corp.
Litigation continues against other electronic goods manufacturers, including: AU Optronics Corp., LG Display Co. Ltd., and Toshiba Corp. and their U.S. affiliates.
Because of the continued litigation, the settlement fund will not be distributed until the case is concluded. However, consumers can register online at https://lcdclass.com to receive a claim form when one becomes available.
Consumers who wish to opt out of or object to the litigation must do so by April 13.
The complaint filed by the states alleged the manufacturers conspired -- through secret meetings and telephone conversations -- to prevent competition and to increase prices for the thin film display panels that are commonly used to cover electronics such as laptop screens, flat-panel televisions and desktop monitors, Bondis office stated.
A hearing is scheduled for May 18 in the United States District Court for the District of Northern California to consider whether to approve the settlements.
