Palm Beach County Speeds Up Action to Bar New Internet Cafes

With the state House expected to get around to bills focused on regulating or closing Internet cafes in the coming week, Palm Beach County commissioners are looking to shorten the moratorium that prevents new arcades opening.

County officials have said the moratorium would prevent any cafes from opening in the county before the state has time to ban them permanently, the Palm Beach Post reported. But it appears unlikely the issue will gain momentum before this year's legislative session comes to a close, next month.

Still, Commissioner Karen Marcus, who pushed for the county's temporary ban, said the moratorium would give the county time to review how other communities around the state regulate the industry.
