One Investigation Not Enough: Dems Want Feds to Look at Attorney Firings
Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi called for an independent investigation of her office's firing of two foreclosure-fraud prosecutors this week, but state Democrats aren't satisfied.
Rep. Darren Soto, D-Orlando, and Sen. Eleanor Sobel, D-Hollywood, sent letters Wednesday to U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, asking the Department of Justice to look into the recent dismissal of two state prosecutors involved in investigating foreclosure mills.
Theresa Edwards and June Clarkson were fired from Bondi's Economic Crimes division in May for poor performance despite previous solid performance reviews. They submitted their version of how the dismissal was handled with the letters from Soto and Sobel.
"We asked the reason for this sudden, unexpected and shocking news and (South Florida Bureau Chief Robert Julian) said that he had asked and was told that no reason was being given and that the firings 'came from the top,'" Clarkson and Edwards stated.
