Oct. 31 Last Day to Submit Comments about Common Core

Oct. 31 marks the last day for members of the public to submit their comments on Common Core State Standards. The standards have drawn controversy over the last several months as the Florida Department of Education works at warp-speed to have the national standards implemented by the 2014-2015 school year.

The department has been gathering public opinion since September after Gov. Rick Scott called for more public feedback on the national benchmarks. Three public hearings on the standards were held throughout the state in October, gathering supporters and opponents of CCSS alike.

The department has already received over 16,000 submissions so far.
