Florida Blue reports it is cutting 300,000 individual insurance policies because they dont measure up to the guidelines set forth by the Affordable Care Act.
Kaiser Health News says the cuts represent about 80 percent of Florida Blues individual insurance business. Affected policyholders are being notified via mail, with recommendations in the letter for new plan options available on the health exchange. The exchange is the online marketplace through which consumers can purchase subsidized insurance.
Florida Blue is the only insurer to offer plans on the exchange in all 67 Florida counties.
Information is not yet forthcoming on a price difference between the canceled plans and the ones available on the exchange.
