Obama Volt Promise as Empty as the Earlier Campaign Pledges

I realize I'm a little late to the party on this one, since the Obama speech I'm talking about took place Tuesday, but in my own defense, we do have a Legislature in session and some pretty big primaries going on that distracted my attention from The One.

The One, that is, who vowed to buy a Chevy Volt -- in five years, after a nationally ruinous re-election.

It's about the best, clearest example of what liberalism/socialism/totalidotism is all about.

Doubtful premise 1: Obama is re-elected. An incumbent president should be 10 percentage points ahead of any potential challenger at this point in the election cycle. Obama is even or even losing to Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum in national polls.

Doubtful premise 2: Does anyone, including -- and especially -- our president, seriously believe Chevrolet will be making the Volt five years from now? If Obama really wants one, he's likely to find it in a used-car lot -- or a junkyard. (Actually, Doubtful premise 2.5: There will still be a Chevrolet in five years.)

Doubtful premise 3: Anyone, even still-lovestruck libs with their hope-and-change eyes glazed over, really gives a damn what an ex-president is driving. Let's face it, since Franklin Pierce got caught driving a horse-drawn carriage drunk in D.C., it hasn't been much of an issue. But is it a coincidence that Franklin Pierce is considered one of the most inept presidents in American history?
