Obama Has Seen the Future -- But It Doesn't Work

In a pattern of behavior thats moving from outrageous to simply pathetic, our president now wants to expand the tax credit for the increasingly discredited Chevy Volt (an environmental Holy Grail for green energy fantasists -- and equally fanciful) from $7,500 to $10,000.

Unfortunately, Chevrolet has suspended production of the high-cost hybrid due to lack of consumer interest -- that translates as market failure.

The Daily Caller has the story here. But the quote it contains from White House spokesman Jay Carney is priceless:

The president is absolutely committed to ensuring that we do not, in the United States of America, simply throw up our hands and cede the industries of the future to other countries.

Reminds me of Lincoln Steffans brilliantly willfully blind remark about the newborn Soviet Union: I have seen the future and it works.

Were seeing the industries of the future now: solar panel manufacturers that go broke on taxpayer money; wind farms not even the Kennedys want spoiling their ocean views; electric cars that take what are essentially taxpayer bribes to get rich people to buy them.

Let the "other countries" have them. The "industries of the future" dont work.

On the other hand, Obama does want to buy a Volt when he leaves office. Maybe it's a future tax credit he's interested in.
